This is a brief history of the under 17's squad over the past 2 years as we begin our 3rd year, 2nd season in a competative league.
Woodville Rangers FC was started in June 2005 by a small number of parents with children who all shared an interest in Soccer. The first year saww us mainly carrying out training sessions at Woodville Recreation Ground. Later in the summer we were approached by a number of 15/16 year olds who expressed an interest in starting a team. Some had previously played for other local sides and some for their respective schools. A majority of the lads were pupils at Granville Community School which falls into the Woodville Parish. As we were too late to join a competative league for that season and realising that the lads had skills and talent, they were asked if they wished to leave and sign for other clubs for that season and consider us for the future but after a team meeting, the majority decided that they wished to stay with Woodville and build the team from scratch.
The following season saw the lads entered into The BJFL but because alot of them were the lower end of the eligable age bracket, I think it's fair to say that they found it hard going. Large defeats set heads down, players moving on to other clubs and a low morale amongst the players. As the season went on however, the lads started to settle and produce some good football and end results.
This season will see them at the upper end of the age scale, a year older and wiser with a full season of competative league football behind them.
Training is gathering momentum, we have a good squad already signed with several more to sign upon return from holidays etc and having all of the players signed on as reserve callings for this seasons newly formed Mens team, I feel that they have the positive attitude and drive to want to get out and compete for the league title.
